Developing Young Athletes Network Podcast

Oct 22, 2018

I am excited to start today’s episode because it’s a little different than our prior shows. Today I have the opportunity to talk with THREE  guests so that we can hear how EACH one of them are playing a UNIQUE ROLE in developing the total athlete.

When most of us watch sports, either on television or in person, we are usually focused on the moment when the athlete either scores a point or crosses the finish line. What we DON’T REALLY see is the hours spent physically and mentally training or the people who surround and support the athlete to bring them to THAT MOMENT. Today let’s go behind the scenes so we can discuss what IT TAKES…..to raise SONS as high top level athletes…..to pursue a dream to play in the NFL and come back from an injury……. and to help improve upon UP AND COMING top athletes.

Football for our first guest  is not just a GAME...but a FAMILY AFFAIR. Since a young age our guest has been surrounded and raised with family members full of raw natural football talent. His father who is our second guest, played high school, collegiate and semi-professional football. Our first guest also has a BROTHER AND COUSIN who both played professional football in the NFL.

In high school our first guest was a TOP RATED RUNNING BACK at Birmingham Groves high school in Michigan. He helped lead his team to win the 2016 regional championship- the FIRST in the school’s program history. He averaged over 2500 yards rushing in his 4 year high school career and was on track of obtaining HIS GOALl of being the #1 RATED RUNNING BACK in the state of Michigan. He was well on his way UNTIL his senior year when he was diagnosed with an ACL injury. CHOOSING to undergo therapy instead or surgery right away, he played his final season WITH THE INJURY and ended his senior year with over 1,000 yards rushing.

The decision to do surgery was not an easy one. It would mean taking time off from his journey of pursuing college football and eventually playing professionally in the NFL. His father- who has been his coach since he was younger- along with other family members helped support him when he decided to undergo ACL reconstructive surgery. His recovery was a long process but our guest has focus...he once said..”What I would like for people to know is that I am hardworking, dedicated, and will do anything that will help me grow as a man and as an athlete”. That focus and determination to become the dominant athlete on the field took him to Texas, where he met our third guest. He improved his conditioning and strength with our third guest who helped him take his skills to the next level. Our third guest is not just a trainer but a former athlete with EXTENSIVE coaching experience both on and off the field. He helped our first guest stay on track with his dream and vision to play professional football.
